Owens wins 15th Coach of the Year honor

Box Score

WINGATE, N.C. – Mars Hill placed three of the top four individual finishers and won the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men’s Cross Country Tournament Championship for a 14th consecutive season.  Head Coach Mike Owens claimed the Coach of the Year title for a 15th time.

Justin Gragg, Trey McCain and Aaron Thomas finished second through fourth overall in the 8k meet.  Gragg posted a time of 25:28.  McCain finished the meet with a time of 25:36.  Thomas rounded out the top three of the team in 25:58.

Eric Blackburn also received All-SAC laurels, thanks to his 14th place showing (26:31). Mars Hill outdistanced Lenoir-Rhyne by 19 points.

MHC XC will race again on November 20th at the South East Regional meet at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, NC.  The top three teams will advance to the National meet in Louisville, KY on December 4th.  MHC is currently ranked #5 in the Region behind Queens, Columbus State, Mount Olive College, and King College.  MHC is ranked 5th because the only time we raced against the other schools we lost to them due to some runners not participating and some of us running poorly.  We were ranked 3rd before that.  We WILL be going to nationals, Mount Olive and King better start studying for finals instead of running in December.  Our senior class is too strong to be denied a final trip to Nattys.
